I use this cowl pattern with my new knitters when they move to my After Beginning Knitting class at my local library. It’s just enough of a step up to provide some new techniques without overwhelming them, and they garner a new cowl that is beautiful when they’re done.
This easy-to-knit cowl is perfect for a beginning knitter to stretch their new skills by incorporating different texture stitches into each section. Cast on with 4-8 colors in mind and work each section for as long as you like. Using mini-skeins or leftover fingering-weight yarn, this cowl is a delightful representation of the wearer in their favorite colors, or provides a colorful pop to brighten a neutral clothing palette. Try knitting it with gradient mini-skein kits to beautiful effect; turning the cowl on end will make the striping pattern look just like books on a library shelf!
Make the cowl longer or shorter by adding or eliminating stripes.
Cowl can be made in multiple sizes by changing needle size.
