Braided cables define the bodice of this elegant cardigan with top-down, set-in sleeves

Pattern Notes
This cardigan is worked in one piece from the bottom up. The fronts and back are cast on in one piece, then worked straight to the armscyes. The right front, back and left front are then worked consecutively, before the shoulders are joined with a 3-needle bind off. Sleeve caps are then picked up around the armscye, shaped with short rows then worked in the round to the cuff. Finally, a ribbed front band is added with buttonholes.

Size and fit
Select a size above your actual body measurements with the amount of ease required.

The garment suits a fitted look (as shown in the Highland Coo sample, worn in the second size with very slight positive ease) but will also work well with up to 10 in positive ease, for an easy fit, with front bands worn open. The Crowdie sample is shown in the fourth size with 19cm / 7.5 in positive ease

Orange cardigan: Buachaille (100% Scottish Wool; 110m 120yds per 50g skein) in shade Highland Coo

both 8 (9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16) x 50g skeins

Yarn quantities have been calculated to include an additional 5% for each size, to allow for swatching as well as small differences in gauge and skein length.

22 sts and 27 rows to 10cm 4in over st st (and rev st st), using gauge-size needles
24 sts of chart B panel to 8cm 3⅛in, using gauge-size needles
10 sts of chart A/C panel to 3.5cm 1⅜in, using gauge-size needles
For reference, a 3.75mm needle was used to achieve gauge.
