Kawaii Cardi
A little flared cardi with garter stitch bands worked sideways in one piece. Shaped using short rows and with hardly any sewing, this is a fast and fun knit.
All instructions are given for the Japanese short row method – easy and effective, with no wrapping; plus a 3 needle cast off to make neat seams and an optional provisional cast on.
This cardi uses long-colour-change yarn that is slightly thinner than 8 ply/DK (approx 136 yds/125 m per 50 gms eg Noro Silk Garden Lite or Shiro), for the main part plus a thicker yarn (12 ply - bulky eg Wendy Merino Chunky) for bands and contrast.
Please note that using thicker yarn such as Noro Silk Garden (rather than Noro Silk Garden LITE) will make the cardi too big and use more yarn.
Sizes use:
Size 1 (0-3 months) 60 gms main yarn; 40 gms contrast
Size 2 (3-6 months) 85 gms main yarn; 50 gms contrast
Size 3 (6-12 months) 110 gms main yarn; 60 gms contrast
Size 4 (1-2 years) 140 gms main yarn; 70 gms contrast
Btw – Kawaii is Japanese for cute and adorable.
