Jolly Gingerbread House
This Jolly Gingerbread House display would make a super knitted centrepiece to your festive dinner table, buffet or mantlepiece, perhaps with a dusting of fake snow too! The knitting pattern includes instructions to knit the house, snowman, tree and display mat. The roof of the gingerbread house uses a 2 colour honeycomb slip stitch pattern to make the textured icing.
Designed by Amanda Berry @fluffandfuzz, this pattern is knitted in acrylic DK yarns on single pointed needles (not in the round), and the icing on the house are knitted i-cord which is worked on two DPNs.
NEEDLES
A pair each of 3.5mm single pointed knitting needles and DPNs (US 4).
RECOMMENDED YARN
Yarnsmiths Create Double Knit (double knitting/light worsted weight); 100% acrylic; One 100g/290m skein in each colour
NOTIONS
Tapestry needle, toy filling, buttons and bows to decorate, stitch markers and pins for making up.
SIZES
One size only - Display mat is 23cm x 23cm, house is 17cm tall x 15cm wide x 13cm deep, snowman is 9.5cm tall and tree is 10cm tall.
TECHNIQUES
For intermediate knitters and above, other techniques used include casting on and off, knits, purls, increases and decreases, and seaming to finish.
