In Reverse Mitts
The In Reverse Mitts are the companion to the In Reverse Hat.
These mitts are worked in the opposite direction of most mitts – from the top cuff around the fingers to the wrist cuff. This allows the knitter to knit the wrist cuff as long as needed without worrying about running out of yarn. Just divide your yarn in half before beginning! The pattern features faux cables worked as twisted stitches and are, of course, reversed on the second mitt. The thumb stitches are cast on with waste yarn and then worked in the main yarn, decreasing down as work progresses towards the cuff. Then, the waste yarn is removed and the rest of the thumb is worked from the live stitches. In Reverse is a fun knit with interesting features, but it isn’t too daunting and finishes quickly – perfect for gift knitting!
This pattern is an intermediate knit. Skills needed include how to work basic stitches (k, p, k2tog, ssk), how to work in the round, pick up stitches, and cast on with waste yarn. Detailed instructions are given for the twisted stitches.
