Hellebore
One of my favourite fairytales is H.K.Andersen’s Snow Queen. The abundance of real and frost flowers in that story have always captured my imagination exactly because of the winter all around them. When I grew older I fell in love with the first flowers of the spring — snowdrops and hellebores (snow roses in Latvian). They quite often bloom in the middle of the cold and the snow. In this design I tried my best to capture all the beauty of the ever-lasting hope for the new spring in the middle of the winter.
Mittens in this pattern are not identical, but mirror images of each other — distinctively right and left. This pattern features pretty lace panel and arched thumb gussets. The pattern includes additional instructions for working fingerless mittens or an inside layer.
The formula works for most hands, big and small. Knitting with different weight yarns is one of options for sizing: i.e., the same stitch number with fine fingering yarn on 2mm needles will make a toddler size mittens, on 2.75mm needles will make ladies size M, but with a little heavier weight yarn on bigger needles, a ladies size L.
This pattern works best with solid colour fingering weight yarn.
