In photography, the moment right before sunset and shortly after sunrise is called the ‘golden hour’. During this time, daylight is softer and warmer in hue than when the sun is higher in the sky.

Golden Hour Cowl features an intricate and undulating lace pattern reminiscent of hourglasses. Create your own magical moment with this shimmering cowl knit with one strand of fingering-weight sock yarn and the other a fluffy silk-mohair. Choose two yarns with similar colors to let the lace pattern shine.

Golden Hour Cowl is knit in the round using short or long circular needles, starting and ending with a bit of twisted ribbing. The length and circumference of the cowl can be easily adjusted to your liking.

The pattern is written with both metric and US terminology. Instructions for the lace pattern are given both in written and charted format.

Yarn

• Yarn A: iKKe BFL Sock 75/25 (75% BFL, 25% nylon, 425 m/100 g, 465 yd/3.53 oz), 1 skein in the colorway Midas
• Yarn B: Filcolana Tilia (70% mohair, 30% silk, 210 m/25 g, 230 yd/0.88 oz), 2 skeins in the colorway #136 mustard

Or

• Yarn A: approx. 365 m / 400 yd of smooth fingering-weight yarn, such as wool or wool/nylon blend
• Yarn B: approx. 365 m / 400 yd of fluffy lace-weight yarn, such as mohair, mohair/silk, or brushed alpaca

Both yarns are held together throughout the pattern. Choose similar colors so as not to obscure the lace pattern.

Needles

• 5.0 mm / US #8 short circular needle (40 cm / 16”) for lace (or size to obtain gauge)
• 4.0 mm / US #6 short circular needle for twisted ribbing
• Or long (80–100 cm / 32–40”) circular needle(s) in the same sizes for working in magic loop or with two needles

Notions

• Stitch marker
• Cable needle (optional)
• Darning needle

TECHNIQUES USED

The pattern uses the following techniques: working in the round, twisted stitches, cables, lace, and stretchy bind-off.
