This cheerful gingham design explores mosaic knitting in the round with just one active yarn per row.

Knit with worsted yarns, the result is a seamless moderately heavy mitt with a gingham plaid appearance.

Each mitt is worked in the round on DPNs from CO to the thumb opening. The thumb opening is worked flat (back and forth in rows); the piece is then completed by working in the round to the top edge. No seaming is required.

Color selection of the yarns is key: you’ll need a main color (MC) and a white/off white contrast color (CC). In addition, you’ll also need an intermediate color (MIX) which is a mix between the MC and the CC. There are 3 options for selecting your intermediate yarn:

1. Use a marled yarn like Lionbrand Fisherman in the Oak Tweed colorway (combine with Nature’s Brown and Natural).
2. Use a speckled yarn like Knit Picks’ Comfy Color Mist, colorway Chive Blossom shown combined with Lilac and White.
3. Use an intermediate solid color that is a lighter value of the main color like Blue Sky Woolstock colorway Morning Frost combined with October Sky and Highland Fleece.

Note: this pattern creates a similar final result as the Marled Gingham Fingerless Mitts.…but that design is created by using 2 strands of fingering yarn held together to create a worsted weight working yarn.
