Geysers are amazing forces of nature; the visible signs of incredible geothermal activity taking place deep down below our feet. Geyser activity is the result of surface water gradually seeping down through ground and porous layers until it meets rock heated by magma. The heated water then rises back toward the surface, most often with spectacular eruptions. In Europe, the Haukadalur valley hosts the largest and most famous Geysers in Iceland, including Geysir and Strokkur.
The Geyser cowl is inspired by this stunning form of volcanic activity. The cowl sports two lace patterns complementing each other, evoking images of water seeping through cracks and of fountains. Asymmetrical edgings with peaks and crests top it off in style.

For best effect, use a round yarn with good stitch definition. Yarn weights ranging from fingering to DK would be suitable. As for colorways, I would recommend solid, semi-solid, speckled, or gradient (single skein or gradient set) yarns.

Yarn
Madelinetosh Twist Light (Fingering; 75% Merino, 25% Nylon; 384 meters / 420 yards per 100 grams); 1 skein; sample uses 61 grams in color Geyser Pool.

Needles
3 mm (US size 2.5) 60 cm / 24 inches circular needle or size to obtain gauge.

Gauge
20 stitches and 32 rows = 10 cm / 4 inches in Stockinette stitch, unblocked.
16 stitches and 26 rows = 10 cm / 4 inches in stitch pattern B – Strokkur, blocked.
Note: obtaining the gauge given is not crucial but will affect the finished size and the yardage needed.

Notions
Removable stitch markers: 1 in color A (beginning-of-round marker), 6 in color B (optional). Tapestry needle. Blocking pins. Blocking wires (optional).

Size
One; easily customizable.

Final measurements
Circumference (c): 105 cm / 41.25 inches, height (h): 33 cm / 13 inches.

Skill level
Basic stitches, increases, decreases. Twisted stitches. Stitch pattern requiring some attention. Patterning on all rounds. Elastic BO. Video tutorials are provided for the stitches and techniques used.
