Gertrude Cardi
Inspired by the amazing work of Gertrude Elion, the Gertrude Cardi pays tribute to the countless contributions she made to science. The lab coat silhouette and easy drape of the fabric make this open cardigan perfectly flattering on any body type.
The Gertrude Cardi pattern is a part of the Geek-A-Long Premium Pattern Series. The Geek-A-Long was created to raise awareness for Child’s Play Charity. $1 from each sale of this pattern will be donated to Child’s Play. So wind up your yarn and warm up your needles while you congratulate yourself on making the world a little brighter.
YarnThis sweater can be knit with just about any yarn. You can use a bulky yarn held single, a worsted or DK weight held double, or a fingering weight yarn held triple/quadruple. I think it’s particularly nice with worsted weight held double. The sample is knit in Simply Soft-White, and the yarn was held double while knitting. Approximately 700(750, 850, 975, 1020)grams of yarn are needed.
Needles US10 / 8.0 mm and US9 / 5.5 mm 32”-40” circular needles.
Notions Stitch Markers
Gauge 4sts = 2” in blocked brioche. Note that the bulky yarn and large needles result in a fabric that will stretch beyond your gauge.
Sizing S(M, L, XL, XXL) =34”(40”, 48”, 54”, 62”)
Designer Note This cardigan is designed to be worn open with a lot of ease. I recommend choosing a size that is larger than your actual measurements. For example, if you have a 34” bust, I would recommend the Medium over the Small. The sweater is worked top down, from the collar, then sts are bound off for the sleeves, and the sweater is worked down to the hem in a single piece.
