Garter Shaped Hat
This stripy hat is knit sideways in garter and shaped with short rows. Garter stitch gives this hat some of the stretch you would get with rib stitch without any purl stitches. This pattern is written with generous depth for brim or slouchy styling.
Sizing: Preemie 11” (Newborn 13”, Baby 15”, Toddler 17”, Child 19”) Adult Small 21” (Medium 23”, Large 25”, X-Large 27”)
Preemie 28 cm (Newborn 33 cm, Baby 38 cm, Toddler 43 cm, Child 48 cm) Adult Small 53 cm (Medium 58 cm, Large 63 cm, X-Large 68 cm)
Measurements given for head circumference; not finished size. Finished hats will have negative ease.
To adjust depth, cast on more stitches for a deeper hat with more brim and fewer stitches for a shorter brim.
If using handspun or unsure of row gauge, you can try on your hat as you are working on it by wrapping it around your head and adjust the number of repeats to get the fit you want.
Yarn: Worsted weight yarn. For each color you will need:
20 (35, 50, 70, 100) 150 (190, 200, 210)yards
18 (32, 46, 64, 92) 137 (174, 183, 192)meters
PomPom: additional 30 yards (27 meters)
