I really wanted a fun yet practical sweater for my daughter, I had noticed over the last few months that pullovers were definitely more practical for her than cardigans with fussy buttons, and I was struggling to get her to keep a hat on her head, but she loved and tolerated the hood from her winter jacket.

So based on what I had noticed worked well for her this past winter I decided to make her a hoodie pullover! I love the look of texture on otherwise simple garments and this style of texture really helps to break up variegation is busier yarns. By keeping the arms knit in stockinette it provides a nice contrast against the textured body and adds some diversity to the garment so it doesn’t all look exactly the same.

What you will need:

Yarn – Worsted weight yarn, see more detailed yarn amount requirements in sizing chart below. Yarn used in the sample – Lavender Lune Yarn Co – 100% Superwash Merino Worsted in the Throat Punch Colourway (200m/218yds) – Alternatively you can also use fingering weight yarn held double.
• 200 – 1,000m (273 – 765 yds) of Worsted Weight Yarn (100-500g)

Needles – 3.5mm (US4) & 4.5mm (US7) 16inch (40cm) for smaller sizes or 24inch (60cm) for larger sizes circulars, and longer cables for magic loop on sleeves or DPN’s.

Notions

• 6 Stitch markers
• Beginning of Round Marker,
• Scrap yarn (or stitch holders),
• Tapestry Needle
• Spare needle or Cable needle

Gauge – The gauge is 19sts/4inches and 28rows/4inches in stockinette and broken seed stitch with larger needles – Gauge should be measured AFTER blocking.

Sizing – The pattern includes 8 children sizes ranging from 0-6 months up to 10-12 yrs old. I would also suggest going off the finished chest circumference measurements to see which size you need to knit for your intended recipient as the associated ages next to it are the average and the child you knit for may be smaller or larger than the average. I have also made the sleeve and body lengths longer than average to accommodate those rapidly growing little ones. Of course these lengths are easily customizable to your preferences and you can adjust as you wish.
