Gangalee Sweater
The Gangalee Sweater is a versatile lightweight mosaic crochet sweater - make it with short sleeves and cotton yarn for a summer garment, or long sleeves and wool yarn for a warmer sweater. A lookbook can be found here for inspiration, and to see how the sweater looks on different bodies of different sizes.
The sweater is a top-down circular yoke sweater, crocheted in rounds, with short rows to elongate the back - no seams to sew up!
The colorwork of the sweater uses an overlay mosaic crochet technique - which involves working with only one yarn at a time, with color changes made at the end of each round, and non-working yarn carried on the wrong side of sweater (minimal yarn ends to weave in!). Pattern includes instructions for three options for the extent of the mosaic crochet motif on the sweater:
Option A - yoke only;
Option B - yoke and sleeves;
Option C - full sweater.
Mosaic crochet charts are included in Appendix A for the overlay mosaic crochet pattern used in the yoke, body, and sleeves.
Supplementary photographs are included in Appendix B to assist with the pattern.
SIZING AND FIT
Pattern is written in 8 sizes, for a finished garment chest circumference of 31” to 58” (Craft Yarn Council size ranging from XS women to 4X women/3X men). The sweater is designed as a unisex garment - you can decide what sort of fit you want: select a size close to or slightly smaller than your actual chest measurement for a fitted garment, 2”-4” larger than your chest measurement for “classic” fit, and 4”-6” larger than your chest measurement for a loose fit. Tips are provided in the pattern for some additional customization.
YARN:
Weight: Fingering (super fine / size 1 / 4-ply)
Colors: Select 2 highly contrasting colors for Main Color (MC) and Contrasting Color (CC) to best showcase the mosaic crochet pattern.
Pattern has been tested by pattern testers for all three Options in most sizes. Check out the linked Project pages for photos and notes. Please note as of the pattern release date, size 7 (chest circumference 54”) Option B/C is still being tested; if any revisions are required for that size based on tester feedback, the pattern will be updated. Size 8 pattern testing has unfortunately been delayed; anyone interested in making size 8 (chest circumference 58”), please contact me for a discounted pattern.
Errata:
