This hat was inspired by John Clappison’s ‘onion’ cruet design for Hornsea Pottery (1963). Combining colourwork and cables, it is also a fun knit. During the design process, onion became fun-ion, which in turn morphed into fun-yin (which translates from Scots as one-that-is-fun, or that-fun-thing). To fit head circumferences: 48.5-51 (51-56, 56-58.5) cm / 19-20 (20-22, 22-23) in
Hat circumference: 52.5 (52.5, 56.5) cm / 20½ (20½, 22¼) in
Brim to crown: 19 (21, 23) cm / 7½ (8¼, 9) in
Funyin is designed with a slightly slouchy fit and is shown in the medium size. If you prefer a neater, beanie-like fit, make size small.
