This unique crochet brooch was designed using as inspiration the life and work of Frida Kahlo.
The photo -tutorial is 8 pages long and contains step-by step pictures accompanied by elaborate instructions and patterns for the head and neck (torso), hair and flowers as well as the assemblage /sewing of the whole brooch.

Skill: easy
Supplies
sport yarn for the head, neck mouth and small flowers and 1.9mm hook
DK yarn for the roses and the hair – still same hook (1.9mm)
colorful wooden beads (3 for the necklace and 2 for the earrings – don’t have to be the same)
small piece of embroidery floss for the monobrow
- sewing and tapestry needle and sewing thread
- Felt piece for the back cover + metal brooch pin
Stitches: chain (ch), chain space (ch-space), slip stitch (sl st), single crochet (sc), single crochet 2 together (sc2tog), double crochet (dc), half double crochet (hdc), treble (tr), picot.
American terminology used.
Measurements of finished brooch: 15.5 cm from the top down and 9.5 cm at the widest point.
Notes: for this particular brooch I used less than 15 grams of yarn, so leftover yarn is especially good for this kind of project for the flowers and hair – even head. I didn’t change the hook for the DK yarn (I usually use my 3.00 mm one) because I was aiming at neater and tighter stitches.
Creative ideas: The brooch can be attached not only on jackets and coats, but also on bags and hats. Instead of adding a pin at the back, glue a rope or a ribbon and you instantly have a gorgeous wall hanging. Use it as applique to put on pillows and blankets!
