The Forest Mosaic Shawl is reminiscent of old-time Nordic shawls. The textured colorwork looks impressive but is really just slipped stitches.
The colorwork uses only one color per row! It is so much fun to work the design in a gradient yarn and it is also a great way to use up stash and leftover yarn…maybe even variegated yarn against a strongly contrasting background? See the test projects in Ravelry for ideas for using gradients and 3 colors too!
Forest Mosaic is a triangle shawl with a center spine and is worked top-down. The pattern is both charted and written…yes, every single row of every chart is written out and included at the end of the pattern!
The pattern is both charted and written…. every single square of every single chart is written out and included at the end of the pattern!
The pattern is written for fingering or sport weight yarn but can be made in any weight. Size and yarn usage will vary with differences in gauge.
This pattern has been professionally tech-edited and tested.
FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
Top Edge: 65 inches / 165 cm
Depth: 24 inches / 61 cm
The shawl can be made larger by adding repeats.
RECOMMENDED YARN
Fingering or Sport weight yarns that meet gauge, are smooth and in strong color contrast to each other with no color overlap.
Samples shown used:
Contrast Color (CC): Woolfolk Tynd in Color 13 OR use Spincycle Dyed in the Wool – Sport or Heavy Fingering in color Leith. Any colorway will work with a background that provides strong contrast.
Main Color (MC): Woolfolk Tynd in Color 01.
Substitute any yarn that meets gauge including leftovers in your yarn stash! MC yarn should be a smooth yarn, of equal weight and in strong color contrast to the CC yarn.
Estimated Yarn Required
Main Color (MC): 650 yds / 592 m.
Contrast Color (CC): 300 yds / 273 m.
Yarn usage will vary depending on gauge, options chosen, and specific yarn.
