This cushion was a personal challenge! My friend was interested in a granny square with a flower centre to use for an afghan and the only such squares I had seen had the flower sewn on the granny. So I took up the challenge to design one with the flower incorporated in the granny square. Once I made the first one I decided it would look lovely in a cushion using some rustic looking Rowan Fine Tweed. The cushion is 40 cm (16 in) square.

The front of the cushion has 9 flower granny squares using 4 colours for the flower and 3 colours for the background. The reverse is a plain granny square using the 4 flower colours. Included in this pattern are the instructions for the flower granny square, instructions for the backing granny square and details of how to join them together as well as the layout of the colour scheme.
