Meet Flopsy, a striped bunny rattle with floppy ears and a gentle crinkle that babies adore.

Designed by Jane Burns, with 18 years of experience creating exclusive baby and children’s knitting patterns, Flopsy is a confident beginner project and a lovely way to practise knitting in the round.

The tension is forgiving and the construction is straightforward, so nothing here will catch you out, even if you are newer to working with double pointed needles.

Worked in three colours of King Cole Bamboo Cotton DK, though any machine washable cotton DK will work just as well. You will only need small amounts of each shade, so it is a great stash buster too.

The crinkle in the ears comes from a folded sweet wrapper tucked inside before sewing up (a chocolate wrapper is the traditional choice, and a good excuse to open a tin). Full pattern instructions, materials list, and a link to the free Jane Burns Knitting Abbreviations Guide are included.

Easy to follow, quick to knit up, and great for gifts, whether that is a baby shower, a new arrival, or any little one who likes things that rattle.

Finished measurement: 16cm / 6.25in tall

Needles: 2.75mm double pointed needles, or needles for working in the round

Also needed: Safety toy stuffing, a small rattle or bell, a sweet wrapper or crinkle paper, a darning needle

Yarn requirements: King Cole Bamboo Cotton DK (50% Bamboo Viscose, 50% Cotton, 230m/252yds per 100g), approximately 20g of each shade

• (A) White, shade 530 (B) Fuchsia, shade 536 (C) Pink, shade 516
