Fire Fighter Tribute Hat
By Lisa McFetridge, April 22, 2014
Two Boston Firefighters were killed in the line of duty in March of 2014, Ed Walsh & Michael Kennedy. This hat is a tribute to them.
If any knitter would like to donate a finished hat, please email me at LISAGMC@AOLCOM. I will see that the hat goes to a family member or firefighter at the Boylston Street Fire House. An alternate graph is available to make the hat more generic but keeps the Engine & Ladder numbers in the firehouse doorways. Make the hat as a tribute to any firefighter you may know, or just make a hat and drop it with any local firestation. They are often unsung heroes and deserve something special - what is more special than a hand-knit hat?
Notes:
If having difficulty meeting row gauge, go down a needle size or two and use DK weight yarn - Cascade 220 Superwash is listed as a worsted but is really more like a DK weight. This is a tall chart so better safe than too tall!
Go up one needle size with Worsted to make a slightly larger hat; go down one needle size with worsted to make a slightly smaller hat. Use M1 for increases unless otherwise noted.
There are 2 charts that make up the complete design, the Name Chart and the BFD Chart. Row 1 of Name Chart is immediately followed by Row 1 of BFD Chart. Print off both charts if desired and tape them together side-by-side, or place a marker between the 2 charts to delineate where the Name Chart ends and the BFD Chart begins. The marker will make it easier to determine where a mistake lies if needed.
