Created in collaboration with the Yarnover Truck for the 2018 San Diego Yarn Crawl, Estero is a lacey cowl designed to mimic the look of an asymmetrical triangular shawl wrapped around the neck. Estero is knit flat with a series of increases and decreases forming its shape, while stripes of Stockinette stitch and a simple lace pattern grow from one corner to the next. One little seam up the back makes it a cowl. Just one skein of sport or a heavier fingering weight yarn (in this case, a gorgeous sapphire blue from Dragonfly Fibers) is all it takes for this substantial shawl-cowl hybrid, so it’s a great stashbuster as well.

Specific yarn requirements:
Dragonfly Fibers Damsel (100% superwash merino; 335 yds/ 305 m per 115); 1 skein in Blue Velvet
Or 335 yds/ 305 m of a sport weight yarn

Needles:
US 5 (3.75 mm) circular needle, at least 20”/50 cm long

Gauge:
15 sts & 28 rows = 4”/10 cm in Lace and St st stripe patt Meeting this exact gauge is not crucial, but any major differences will affect the size of the finished cowl as well as yarn requirements.
