Ephemeral Mitts
Spending a lot of time outdoors lends itself to an appreciation of the Seasons and I’m always using wool and handmade items to stay warm while I’m outside.
I decided to create some patterns as a Celebration of Seasons where I share some of the items I like to use while I’m hiking/outdoors - all are inspired by the area around me.
The Ephemeral Mitts were inspired by that special overlap of Winter and Spring where the early Hepatica and other Spring Flowers start to bloom in these parts but Old Man Winter isn’t quite done with us yet which can lead to some chilly and snowy days.
During the days that are chilly but not crazy cold, a lightweight, thin fingerless mitt works great - keeps the hands warm without bulk under sleeves. Longer cuffs keeps the wind out and act as a bit of an armwarmer as well. The 2 sections of the mitt - one inspired by the cozy Winter and one the opening of the Spring Flowers - are divided by a line of cables that work their way up each side of the mitt.
The pattern is written for one size but you can adjust by using thicker yarn and/or larger needle sizes for a larger or looser mitt.
