Flower petals surround a 3-dimensional puffy (and flexible) center disk in this placemat design. The placemat is knit flat with intarsia colorwork and short row shaping until the cast on edge meets the last row of knitting. For a seamless finish the last row of knitting is grafted to live stitches at the cast on edge and the piece is then felted to size. The sample gauge and dimensions are provided in a worsted weight felting wool. Choose colors that contrast well. Try your camera’s “black & white” setting to look at your yarns in grayscale and check the contrast between color selections. The pattern provides full written instructions with (optional) positive and negative charts for making useful household accessories and gifts.
