I have been crocheting since 2015 when the tutorials of Lucy at Attic 24 inspired me to pick up a hook and give it a go. This is my fourth crochet along and it’s another inspired by my previous quilt making obsession. Earlier this year I auctioned off a suitcase of my old quilts to raise money for a charity that provides crochet and knitted blankets to people going through cancer treatment, here in the UK. When I was taking photographs of the blankets the piecing of small bits to make something bigger inspired me to design this.

So, it’s a series of nine blocks. As is usual for my crochet alongs there are no colour rules I have left it entirely up to you to decide what you use and where you use it. I have included the total yardage/meterage below. There is no set order for these nine squares to sit within your blanket, they are all the same size. There are no tricky stitches, if you can do single, double and treble with the odd and sometimes dreaded bobble or popcorn, you’ll be fine. The terminology is US throughout and I completed my original blanket and the test pieces in double knit yarn on a 4mm hook. Providing you stick with your hook and yarn choice from the start, the blanket will work so please don’t get too hung up on sizes and measurements … have faith in your crochet that it will fit.

The finished blanket in double knit yarn measures 70 inches square or 178cm square, it tops my UK king sized bed to give an idea, done in Aran weight or anything heavier, it’ll be huge and a bit cumbersome to finish off.

I have used Stylecraft Special Double knit yarn. It’s a 100g ball with yardage of 322yd and meterage of 295m. I bought a total of 23 balls but had yarn left over.
