Curly Wurly gloves
These twisted stitch gloves take some concentration to work but are not as hard as they look once you get the hang of rearranging the stitches. The twisted stitches produce a stretchy fabric that fits most hands, while the lovely cable pattern makes an elegant final product you can give away to a special friend, or wear yourself to impress strangers. Compliments are guaranteed!
The pattern is presented in both charted and written versions.
Sizes are given for Small (16-18 cm), and Medium-Large (19-24cm). However, this pattern is very stretchy and the Medium-Large size will fit most hands. To measure your hand, hold a tape measure around the fullest part of your palm, excluding the thumb.
This pattern is intended to be used with most 4 ply/sock weight yarns. Testers have found it will use approximately 50g or between about 218y (200m) and 240.5y (220m). With the recommended yarns this will be about half a skein.
Gauge is given as 5cm (2 inches) = 22st in twisted rib, unstretched. As the rib is very stretchy, gauge may not be accurate and the gloves may still fit well with a few stitches leeway. You might like to test your needle size by knitting a small swatch in the round as follows: Cast on 58 (64) stitches and join. Work the first four rounds of the chart (or written pattern), then work 10 rounds of the motif pattern. Cast off loosely and test the fit on your wrists.
Both charted and written versions have been test knitted; but if you find any errors please let me know.
