These gloves are knit up using smaller needles than normal for this yarn weight, creating extra stitch definition on the twisted stitch motifs and a warm, hard-wearing pair of gloves. The twisted rib across the palm side of the gloves ensures a stretchy fit for multiple sizes of hands.

The design is ideal for the twisted stitch learner as it begins with individual curved lines which grow into chains. As the motifs progress the middle section shows how chains can intertwine with and overlap each other, while the flanking chains show how to use left and right twists to create mirrored motifs.

The pattern is both written and charted. Learning to read the charts enables you to see how the motifs can be seen on the chart and to “read” the twisted stitch pattern in your knitting as you go.

Yarn substitution
This pattern should work well with many DK or light worsted weight yarns. If choosing a different yarn, ensure it is strong and stretchy enough as this will ensure smooth stitch definition and that you can work the twisted stitches comfortably. (For example, blends that are 50% wool, 50% silk may contain too much silk for this pattern, and some tweedy yarns can break if you tug the twisted stitches too tightly.)

Gauge
10cm=35st in twisted rib, unstretched with 3.5mm needles; 9cm=25st of twisted stitch motif panel, unstretched, with 3.5mm needles. As the rib is very stretchy, you may like to test your needle size by knitting a small swatch in the round as follows:
Cast on 48 stitches and join. Work 4 rounds in k1tbl, p1 rib, then work 10 rounds of the motif pattern. Cast off loosely and test the fit on your wrists.
