Compulsory figures are prescribed patterns that, in figure skating competitions, used to be traced on the ice by skaters in order to demonstrate mastery of various techniques. The loops and curves of the cables on these socks are reminiscent of the patterns left on the ice after such a competition.

The pattern assumes familiarity with cabling and basic cuff-down sock construction techniques. It will go a lot faster if you know how to work cables without a cable needle - I have not included a tutorial for this in the pattern since there are a number of good ones, such as this one, already available. The cable pattern is currently provided only in charted form.

Four sizes are included:
Small (62 stitch cuff, to fit approximately 7 inch foot)
Medium (66 stitch cuff, to fit approximately 8 inch foot)
Large (74 stitch cuff, to fit approximately 9 inch foot)
Extra Large (82 stitch cuff, to fit approximately 10 inch foot)

Your stitch count will change throughout the sock and these fit considerably tighter than a stockinette sock with an equivalent stitch count, so choose your usual size rather than your usual stitch count.
