Coillte Pullover
Coillte (pronounced queel - cha) is the Irish word for a woods or forest. This pattern is inspired and motivated by the beauty of an autumn forest. Designed to be super warm and cozy, with a high close neckline, yet breathable so you don’t overheat while walking along.
Perfect for a walk in the woods, or any other outside adventure, this pullover is lacy, lightweight and breathable enough to be comfortable under a coat, while also being warm and cozy in cold weather.
Sizes
Coillte is available in 10 sizes, to fit from a 28 inch chest to a 72 inch chest. A schematic is available in the images.
Finished bust measurements of chest, to be worn with 4 to 6 inches positive ease, are
32 (37.25, 42.75, 48) 53.25, 56, 61.252, 77) inches
80 (93, 107, 120) 133, 140, 15380, 193) cm
Tension/Gauge
3 stitch reps = 4 in/10 cm; 8 rnds = 4 in/10 cm
It is important for a good fit to swatch, and to do so in the round, as the pattern is written in the round.
For those who like to try before they buy, the swatch can be used as a bag, and is available as a stand alone free pattern here:
Skill level
This is an intermediate level pattern. It is a 1-2 week make for an experienced crocheter.
It uses Raglan shaping for the arms, and short rows for the back neck. It uses a classic stitch pattern of shells and front post stitches, which is easy to memorise.
Crochet language
This pattern is written in English, with both U.K. and US versions available.
Accessibility
This pattern comes in 3 formats, choose between ‘standard’, ‘large print’, and ‘screen reader’.
All versions of this pattern are in black text, using Canva Sans - a clear, sans serif font.
They use an easy to read layout which includes bold for all emphasis, and avoid italics or block capitals.
Text is left justified throughout, and no columns are used.
All instructions are fully written out. Some illustrative pictures are included, but all required information is in the text.
The standard version of this pattern is presented in 15 point font.
The Large Print version is in 22 point font, with additional descriptive text describing images.
The screen reader version is in 20 point font. All text is written out as full words, and no abbreviations are used. This may be helpful for dyslexic and neurodiverse people who struggle to read patterns. Please note at this point (september, 2025) this pattern has not been tested on a screen reader, as I can not do that myself. Previous patterns with similar layout have been tested and approved by staff from ‘Inclusion London’.
