Clayhead
Clayhead is the sixth pattern in my Knit Fresh Rhode Island e-book. It is named for a beach on beautiful Block Island, RI. The yarn for this cowl is from North Light Fibers, a micro mill located on Block Island. You can read all about their mission and see their yarns here: http://www.northlightfibers.com/
Yarn requirements: Approx. 200 yds each of fingering weight and sport weight yarn. The sample shown is knit in North Light Fibers Silky Sand Sport (80% baby alpaca/20% silk, 150 yds/3.5 oz) and North Light Fibers Night Sky Fingering (60% baby alpaca/40% kid mohair, 200 yds/2.25 oz). A note on yardage and substitution: other sport weights can be used (North Light Water Street is a sport weight and has enough yardage) as well as other fingering weights (the total yardage used is pretty close to 150 yds of each of the yarns). North Light has several fingering weights that would work. I would avoid lace weight unless you are willing to hold it double ! ( in which case you would need ~300 yds )
Needle: Size 4 US 24” circular or size to get gauge.
This cowl uses a deceptively simple technique to achieve its honeycomb texture.
