This frilled scarf is an interesting and convenient alternative to choosing between scarf or yoked cowl and can even be worn as a shawl in warmer months. The scarf is designed to mimic a yoked cowl for a perfect fit around the neck, shoulders and chest yet be more flexible in fit and styling.

It’s also the perfect project to unwind with. It has just 2 simple rows repeated with no seaming, incs, decs etc. and is easy to
follow visually from the previous row without counting or checking the pattern. The extra-long stitches in the frill feel meditative to work and the switch from normal to front loop stitches with each row ensures you adjust hand position and wrist angle to avoid wrist ache if working for a long period of time.

The scarf is worked flat back and forth across the width.
The simple two row repeat is carried out in alternating
colours and can be completed until the scarf is the desired
length. Optionally, a narrow edging can be added to the
straight edge.

This pattern has both UK and US terminology versions, a stitch chart and a colour chart; follow whichever you prefer!

Materials

• 400m (440yds) Wool/alpaca/acrylic dk/worsted/aran yarn. I’ve used Drops Karisma in mine, which is a heavy, fluffy DK superwash wool. I used 350m of the main colour and 50m of contrast colour

• 4.5mm hook (US 7) or suitable hook to achieve desired texture, usually this is the size suggested on the yarn band

• Yarn needle and scissors
