Clam Stitch washcloth
A free version is also available.
• DESCRIPTION: The Clam stitch washcloth is made up of alternating fans and DC. The stitches create a design that looks almost floral but isn’t overly feminine. This stitch would make a great blanket.
• GAUGE & SIZING:
Gauge (tension) isn’t very important in this project. For reference, my gauge is 9 DC + 1 Fan and 7 rows per 4”.
Play around with hook sizes until you find one that makes a fabric you like. This pattern is written to produce a washcloth that is roughly 9 inches by 8 inches.
• ABBREVIATIONS & STITCHES USED:
ch = chain
st = stitch
sp = space
DC = double crochet
V stitch = (2 DC, ch 2, 2 DC) in same sp or st
FPDC = Front post DC: Work DC as usual but work it around the post of the next st below, inserting hook from the front right and hook exiting from the back left.
* * = Repeat what is in asterisks the indicated number of times
( ) = Work all in the same sp or st.
• MATERIALS:
About 60-70 yards of Paintbox Yarns Cotton Aran in Lime Green or any #4 cotton or cotton blend.
A 4.0 mm (F) hook
Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
Stitch markers if desired.
