Three cheers! Whatever the occasion, celebrate in style with this super-cute tiered rainbow cake.

To achieve smooth sides for this cake, the knitted fabric covers a polystyrene cake dummy. These dummies are cylinder shapes of polystyrene used in cake making, and available from craft stores and bakery suppliers. If you cannot find a dummy you can stuff the cake with toy filling for a squishy cake.

Designed by Amanda Berry @fluffandfuzz, this cake is knitted in acrylic DK yarns on single pointed needles (not in the round).

NEEDLES
A pair of 3.75mm single pointed knitting needles (US 5).

RECOMMENDED YARN
King Cole Big Value DK; double knitting/light worsted weight; 100% acrylic; up to 25g in each shade.


NOTIONS
Tapestry needle, toy filling, polystyrene cake dummy (4”/10cm diameter x 6”/15cm tall), and toy eyes.

SIZES
One size only - The cake with candle stands at 23cm tall.

TECHNIQUES
For confident beginners and above, other techniques used include casting on and off, knits, purls, increases and decreases, and seaming to finish.
