Carrots! was inspired by L.M. Montgomery’s Anne of Green Gables. On Anne Shirley’s first day of school in Avonlea, Gilbert Blythe calls her “Carrots”, a reference to her shockingly red hair and a sore spot for Anne. In retaliation, Anne smashes a slate over his head and cements a frosty relationship between the pair. Readers of subsequent “Anne” novels know this relationship eventually thaws and blossoms into something wonderful. Carrots! is knit cuff-down with colorwork in the leg and toe as well as a classic heel flap and gusset.
