The Central Park Carousel Mitts are part of Big Apple Knits. This pattern along with 4 others will be released on February 21, 2015! We are having a KAL in my group Must knit now, Phyll so head over there for more information and updates.

The Manhattan A Carousel, with its sweet calliope music and 57 magnificent horses, is the fourth to stand in Central Park since 1871. It is one of Central Park’s most popular attractions. It is said that the original carousel (1873-1924) was powered by a live mule or a horse, hidden beneath the Carousel platform. The animals were taught to start and stop when the operator tapped on the floor. It remains one of the largest carousels in the United States and finest examples of American folk art. In 1990, Central Park Conservancy restored the Carousel landscape and surrounding plaza. Each horse is also being restored.

The mitts are an easy knit and a great way to use leftover yarns. Make them in an all solid color or stripe them all the way up. They are knit from cuff to wrist with a little fun detail on the thumb. Knit several pairs and wear them next time you ride a carousel or walk in the park or just have fun!
