Laceweight yarn doesn’t always need to be knit into extremely open, lacy items. It makes a delightfully cosy, light fabric when knit at a tighter gauge.

Caparison is a two-layer cowl that, thanks to tidy finishing, is reversible. On one side the eyelet fabric allows the lining colour to peak through, on the other colours connect via an i-cord band; providing strong structure and contrast.

Materials

  • 0.5 skein of Vintage Purls Lace (100% N.Z. Merino; 909 metres / 994 yards per 100g skein) in main colour.
  • 0.5 skein of Vintage Purls Lace (100% N.Z. Merino; 909 metres / 994 yards per 100g skein) in lining colour
  • 2 x 2.75mm 40cm circular needles or size that gives you gauge.
  • 3.25mm needle (or needle two sizes larger than above) for cast off. A double point needle works well, but any kind of needle will suffice.
  • 2 x stitch markers
  • Scraps of waste yarn for provisional cast ons - smooth sock yarn works well.
