Candlehearth
Candlehearth is a bottom-up lace shawl, shaped with short rows to create a mellow crescent shape, and specifically designed to use a single skein of fingering weight yarn. This shawl is equally for the summers and winters - it’s long enough to be wrapped around the shoulders and fastened with a shawl pin, or worn around the neck to protect against the cold winter breeze.
This pattern includes pointers for modifications for those who feel that the curve of this shawl may be too mellow, width not what they’d prefer, or length more or less than they’d like. Just remember that modifying the pattern will alter yardage requirements.
I did not include any gauge information for this, as gauge is not crucial here. If you use recommended needles at a regular tension, and work the pattern as written, you’ll need approximately 350 yards of fingering weight yarn. I do recommend knitting a swatch in order to determine if you like the texture of the fabric - if it feels too airy, go down a needle size, if it feels too stiff, go up a needle size.
Sample shawl knit according to pattern measures 53 in / 135 cm across top edge, 10 in / 25 cm in depth.
