A camera obscura bends and twists rays of light in angles around themselves to produce a picture that is mirrored and upside down. One of them is exhibited in Edinburgh, which I have passed many times but never entered. Outside the building, several mirrors are installed that bend your reflection in weird shapes. These socks explore the path of the light in a camera obscura as well as in these mirrors, the colours take twisted ways and confuse your eyes until you don’t know where up and down is. They also are extremely easy and addicting to knit, just what you need to set your mind straight again.

Materials
• approx. 50g of MC yarn (black)
• approx. 50g of CC yarn (blue)
• 2.5mm DPNs or needles for magic loop or size required to get gauge
• tapestry needle, stitch markers (optional)

The sample was knit in Drops Fabel. Any regular fingering weight sock yarn in solid or semisolid colours will work well. Using variegated or even speckled yarns might also
lead to interesting results, but keep the contrast to the between the colours used next to each other high enough.The sample used every last bit of the 50g of the main colour, so consider getting another ball to be on the safe side if you want to make the same size.

The pattern is written for knitting on DPNs, but can easily be adjusted to your favourite style of knitting socks.

As this is a free pattern, it comes in only one size, approx. size 40 European with a foot circumference of approx. 20cm. You can knit it more tightly or losely to adjust the fit or even leave out or add a chart repeat.
