This pattern is made and written with cotton thread (Scheepjes Maxi Sweet Treat), which makes the pattern suitable for a 40 cm ring. You can also use other cotton yarn, with thicker yarn you can leave out a few rounds of the pattern.

This crochet pattern is aimed at intermediate crocheters, but I think adventurous beginners familiar with some special stitches: front post stitches and clusters; should be able to crochet it too.

This design consists of 27 rounds. The madala measures 40 cm (stretched in the ring) using cotton thread and 1.5 mm hook.

Hook: 1.75mm
Ring: 40 cm in diameter
Scissors, tapestry needle to weave in ends.
You can use any similar yarn and suitable hook.

The size of the finished mandala depends on the yarn and hook you use.
