Sometimes it’s fun to mix things up a little. Who says you must knit a project all in a single style, stitch, color scheme or even yarn weight? You can mix and match (or not) to your heart’s content. Maybe you were told that blue, gray and brown shouldn’t be put together. Or maybe green and orange with a red or rose? Why not? If you like it, it goes. It’s fun to experiment with combining yarn weights, too. Adding a bulky weight yarn to a piece primarily worked with fingering weight yarn adds interest and alleviates any monotony that might be inherent in a design. I decided, after knitting about a dozen colorwork shawls, that it might be fun to add a simple lace stitch motif to break up the colorwork design. Blue Diamonds (cover pattern modeled by my gorgeous friend, Stacy) is the result. It is no more difficult to work than straight-forward colorwork, and it adds interest to the shawl. And Lisa souza’s hardtwist Merino Petit is the perfect yarn…a great drape, sheen and stitch definition. This opens doors to virtually endless design possibilities. So exciting!
