blue-blooded limulus
Horseshoe crabs are ancient, no, beyond ancient…they are living fossils! These arachnid arthropods, of the family Limulidae and genus Limulus, have been around about 450 million years. They are smooth on the outside and all leggy underneath.
With copper rich blue-blood, 7 eyes, 1 photo receptor, an intricate relationship to the coastal ecology, and the always cool, prehistoric look, how can one not, but adore the uniquely beautiful Limulus polyphemus?! They have been helpful to humans in a variety of ways, in research and medicines, but I want to honor the humble horseshoe crab with this extra warm scarf.
The Blue-Blooded Limulus scarf is worked using the intarsia in the round technique, creating a decorative vertical braid. It is double thick, and perfect for the coldest day on the New England coast. Keep your neck warm and cozy, as you watch the foam freeze over and dream of warmer Spring days filled with a Limulus polyphemus migration.
