Big Top Animal Hats
Big Top Animal Hats feature 3 animals - bears, bunnies, and owls, in a pattern reminiscent of a circus big top. This pattern includes 3 sizes (small for babies, medium for toddlers, and large for children) in all three animals, created by simple knits and purls.
Big Top Animal Hats are great gifts for new moms and animal-loving children alike. Is there anything cuter than a kid in a pointy hat? Why not give them one that features a sweet bunny, owl, or bear - under the big top!
-
All three animal patterns, in 3 sizes, are included in the pattern.
-
Requires 1(1,2) balls of Capra DK yarn, or any DK weight yarn of your choice (approx.100-170 yards).
-
Hats are knit from the bottom up using a US size 3 (3.25mm) 16 inch circular knitting needle for ribbing and US size 5 (3.75mm) 16 inch circular knitting needle for main hat, changing back to US size 3 (3.25mm) 16 inch circular for “big top” portion and onto US 3 (3.25mm) double pointed knitting needles when number of stitches is too small for circular.
-
Hats are finished with 14 (16, 18) Safety Eyes (I like the 6mm size) or small buttons. If desired, knotted yarn can be used, as babies like to put small things in their mouths.
Finished animal hats are extremely stretchy, so sizes are approximate and will fit many heads.
Finished Hat Dimensions:

- Medium (Toddler, 1-3 years) - 7 inches wide, laying flat (14 inch circumference), 7 inches tall.
