This pattern was originally designed for a collaboration with The Lana Box April 2021.

Inspiration
When Lorena from The Lana Box contacted me to design a shawl, I did not hesitate. I knew it would be a garter stitch shawl, something simple, meditative, an easy design, yet elegant, a shawl to welcome spring. As I always try with my designs, I wanted it to have an interesting construction, something to learn with. That is how Bidai was born. Bidai means journey in Basque, and if you already have the subscription box in your hands, you will see it shares a name with the yarn. A shawl knitted with the journey back home in time, a journey I hope to make soon.

Construction
This shawl is crescent-shaped, worked top-down, first with a half-pi shape (semi-circle) that then gets elongated with short rows and increases only at the edges. It is worked mainly in garter stitch, with a few rows of a simple eyelet lace, and finished with i-cord edges. Make sure not to knit the i-cord edge stitches too tight and bind off with a bigger needle size if necessary.

Techniques
Long tail cast on, knitting (garter stitch), increasing (yarn over and double increases with knit front-back-front), decreases (knitting stitches together), German short rows, i-cord edge and bind-off, and grafting (kitchener stitch).

Inspiración
Cuando Lorena de The Lana Box me propuso diseñar un chal, no lo dudé. Sabía que quería un chal en punto bobo, algo simple, meditativo, un diseño sencillo y elegante al mismo tiempo, un chal para dar la bienvenida a la primavera. Como siempre intento con mis diseños, quería que tuviese una construcción interesante, algo con lo que aprender. Así nació Bidai. Bidai significa viaje en euskera, si ya tienes la caja en tus manos, verás que la lana lleva el mismo nombre. Un chal tejido con el viaje de vuelta a casa, a mi familia, en mente. Un viaje que espero poder hacer pronto.

Construcción
Bidai es un chal con forma de media luna, se trabaja de arriba abajo, primero con forma de semicírculo que después se alarga con vueltas cortas y aumentos sólo en los extremos. Está tejido principalmente en punto bobo, con algunas líneas de calados y está acabado con bordes en i-cord. Importante: no tejas los puntos del i-cord muy apretados y si lo necesitas, utiliza un número de aguja mayor para el cierre.

Técnicas
Montaje de hebra larga, punto del derecho (punto bobo), aumentar puntos (mediante hebras o lazadas, aumento doble tejiendo delante-detrás-delante), disminuciones (tejer puntos juntos), vueltas cortas alemanas y borde y cierre en i-cord.
