This crew-neck cardigan is a firm favourite in my Skipton studio, and it’s easy to see why! Designed to suit baby boys and girls alike, it features my favourite rib stitch – a stitch I first created for the Caspian Hat and have since used in several other designs. I love it so much, I know I’ll keep using it again and again!

For this baby cardigan, I added the rib detail to the front and two cute little pockets – though it’s easy to leave them out if you prefer. That said, they’re super simple to knit, and once you’ve done them, you’ll feel a great sense of achievement!

I chose a contrast edging in a soft grey, but you can add any shade to make it your own. Whether you keep it classic or go bold with colour, this is a timeless knit you’ll love making and gifting.

CONSTRUCTION
The back, left front with pocket, right front with pocket, two sleeves are knitted flat in seperate pieces from the bottom up and joined together. The sleeves are drop shoulder. The buttonbands and neck edge are picked up and knitted.

TECHNIQUES USED
Cast on, knit, purl, increasing on sleeves, decreasing at neck edge, pockets, buttonholes, cast off, seaming, sewing on buttons. Optional but recommended to create the feeling of joy when joining your pieces: mattress stitch and three needle cast off.
