Aureate Hat
Your favorite baby or child will stay warm in style in this bulky-weight beanie that flies off the needles. Perfect for a last minute gift or when the snow is falling outside and you need a hat fast!
The ribbed Cross Pattern is very stretchy, so each hat should fit a range of head sizes. Pattern includes both written out and charted directions for the cables.
Adult version of this hat now available here: Auroral Hat!
SIZES
Baby (Toddler, Child). Shown in Baby size.
Finished circumference: 13.75 (16, 18.25)“ or 35 [40.5, 46.5] cm
MATERIALS NEEDED
Note: Although many people have made this hat successfully, it’s important to note that skeins of this yarn can vary in thickness, and the skein used to knit this sample was closer to a heavy worsted/Aran weight yarn. If you’re substituting a chunkier yarn, you may need to adjust the cast on number (info given on this adjustment in update of Jan 19, 2022—updated file is labeled Aureate.v2.pdf).
Yarn:
Malabrigo Yarn Mecha (100% merino; 130yds/119m per 100g skein): 1 skein in Mostaza for all sizes
Recommended needles (make sure to check gauge and change sizes if needed):
US #9 [5.5 mm] double-pointed needles, set of 4 or 5 (or preferred type of needles for small diameter knitting in the round)
Optional: US #9 [5.5 mm] circular needle, 16” long (for two larger sizes only)
Notions:
Removable stitch marker, cable needle, yarn needle
