This pattern was born because I wanted little cable hearts for my Mother for her Mother’s Day socks this year. I also wanted a stretchy sock that would fit well using a sock yarn that contained 30% cotton.
As I was playing with the design it started to remind me of the carved Welsh love spoons we often saw on holidays in South Wales when I was little. So I named them “Arbennig” which means “special” in Welsh and now you can knit them for every special person in your life, or for yourself - because you are special too!

Method: The leg of these cuff down socks features little hearts formed by cables and looks a lot more complicated than it really is to knit! They also contain the Ribbed Heel Stitch Heel flap (developed by Winwick Mum and used with her kind permission).
These socks can be knitted on dpns, short circular (you will still need dpns for the heel and toe decreases), or by magic loop.

This pattern includes both charts and written line by line instructions for each size so you can work with whichever version you feel more comfortable with.

Size: This pattern is written in two sizes referred to throughout the pattern as S, and M. All instructions that differ depending on the size you are knitting are color coded.

This design makes for a stretchy sock the cuff of which will happily stretch to just over 11”, 28cm in size S and 14”, 35.5cm in size M. The leg is approximately 7”, 18cm long (9”, 23cm including heel flap).
The foot length is further adjustable by working more or less pattern rows.

Yarn: You can use any 4 ply (fingering) sock yarn that you like and with which you can get gauge. This pattern works well with either solid colors or a variegated yarn.
Size S requires approximately 300 m (328 yards)
Size M requires approximately 400 m (437 yards)
