Angela
This pretty shawl is designed in honor of my niece, Angela. She is the “model” of the family and has her own sense of style. She’s tall and slim and everything looks good on her! Angela loves big, oversized sweaters. I thought the raw, organic qualities of Noro Akari would be perfect for her free spirit. She marches to her own drummer; and this shawl is perfect for someone like her.
The shawl is large, but not cumbersome. It’s airy and drapey, since it’s knitted on big needles with worsted weight yarn. It works up extra quickly with less than 200 stitches and size US 11/8mm 32” circular needles as the working needle. Cast on with size US13/9mm. The lace isn’t too hard and it’s really a joy to knit. The chart is big and easy to read, with a 15-stitch repeat, so not too crazy to make. There are also written directions for the chart included for those who don’t “do” charts! The top section has short rows to accomplish the classic crescent shaping. It’s the easiest shape to wear among the many varieties of shawls. you can even tie this one around your waist. Complete directions are included for the wraps and turns (not hard!). This shawl would look good in just about any worsted weight yarn, but I would go with wool or a wool blend.
Noro has color combinations like no other yarn company. The company was formed by an artist and you can tell by the wonderful variety of colors and fibers. They have a minimal processing philosophy, so sometimes you find little bits of the “farm” in the yarn. Just tease them out and keep going!
