Alhambra is a lace-weight crescent shawl inspired by the intricate carved geometric stonework of the Alhambra palace in Granada, Spain. The Alhambra Shawl is worked flat from the bottom up. Short rows are used to create the crescent shape, then complete rows of Stockinette stitch are worked the entire length to bind off. Choose a warm neutral or brilliant colorway to give this full-coverage shawl a different look.

This is an experienced level pattern. Knitters should be able to follow complex lace charts or written instructions, use various decrease and increase techniques, and work short rows. This pattern is one size fits all. The shawl is 88” in length at the upper edge, 130” at the lower edge, and 20” depth at the center back.

The gauge is 22 stitches and 26 rows over 4” in Chart 2 pattern, blocked.

This pattern calls for a lace weight yarn. In the featured photos I used one cone of Valley Yarns 2/14 Alpaca Silk in Fawn. Approximately 920 yards of any lace weight yarn can be substituted.

You will also need a set of 40” circular needles in size US 8 or whatever size necessary to obtain gauge.
