Aine, (awn + ye) is an ancient Irish name that means “splendor, radiance, brilliance.” Aine is associated with midsummer and the sun, was a Celtic Goddess of summer, wealth and sovereignty and also a Faery Queen. She is sometimes represented by a red mare and appears in folktales as “the best-hearted woman who ever lived, lucky in love and in money.”
This little doll is 29cm tall and has knitted fingers, toes, ears and a nose. The mouth, eyes and eyebrows are embroidered on and the hair is knotted to the head.
She is the first of a series of dolls of different nationalities, so look out for more.
