Strange knitwear designers lying in ponds distributing patterns is no basis for a system of knitting

Maybe you can’t expect to wield supreme power just because some watery tart threw a knitting pattern at you…But if you’ve got some variegated yarn or a leftover bit of a slow-color-changing DK that needs a little project to show it off, this sweet water lily stitch pattern lets that yarn shine against a solid background. Great for scraps, gift-giving, as well as farcical aquatic ceremonies.

Gauge: 21 sts & 28.5 rows/4” (after blocking) in the water lily pattern on a size 6 needle (or size to achieve gauge) and 24 sts & 31 rows on the smaller needle in the ribbing.

Materials:
What is your Quest? What is your favorite color?? Then to make the hat, you’ll need:
1 skein of the Main Color (MC) in Primrose Roan DK (230 yd/100 g, shown in Midnight), and
1 skein of the Contrasting Color (CC) in Spin Cycle Dream State (150 yds/skein, shown in Overboard),
Or approximately 130(150, 170) yds of the MC and 45(50, 55) yds of the CC in DK weight yarn.
Set of size 6 (4 mm) double pointed needles (dpns) or size needle required to achieve gauge, and
Set of size 5 (3.75 mm) double pointed needles (dpns) or one size smaller than required to achieve gauge,

(You may substitute circular needles for the sets of dpns, but this may make knitting the rounds feel a bit awkward in the smallest size. Regardless, each size will need to switch to dpns for the crown decreases while determining the average wing velocity of an unladen swallow).

The stitch pattern requires only 1 round of “stranded” knitting followed by 3 rounds with just the main color. I do find the 2-color round is easier to work by just picking up one yarn at a time. This is because the water lily stitch requires a bit more than just a simple knit stitch. See the demo video here: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/JWwok26eW4c
