“A Study in Speckles” is a triangular shawl knit from the center neck down in an altered triangle shape. It plays with many textures of knitting, including lace, twisted stitches and garter in speckled yarn and ends with a two color scalloped brioche stitch edge.

Yarn Requirements:
800 yards of fingering for main color
200 yards of fingering for contrasting color for border
Sample is knit in madelinetosh sock color “gemini twins” with contrasting color La Jolla Baah in color “California coast”

Needle Size:
US #5 40” circular
US #2 40” circular

Gauge:
Gauge is not critical, but you may run out of yarn if you don’t check. Also, the pattern switches from a #5 for the body to a #2 for the brioche edge, and it’s helpful to swatch the seed stitch into the brioche rib so the tension looks right.
20sts = 4” over seed stitch on US #5 (or size need to obtain gauge)
