#148 The Bettie Boop
Pattern Difficulty Level
Intrepid Easy to Intermediate: requires knowledge of knitting and purling, increasing and decreasing, picking up stitches, working in the round on circular needles, simple hand-sewing, finishing techniques such as applying bag feet, bag handles, and closures.
Pattern Notes
• Work each felted bag and the turnlock flap with two strands of worsted weight, feltable yarn held together throughout. Work the bag on the larger size needle and the flap on size 10 (6mm) needles.
• Instructions for the small bag appear first, with instructions for the larger two sizes appearing in order in parentheses.
• To make unfelted bags, use a single strand of worsted weight yarn (or smaller-gauge yarn that when held double is equivalent to worsted weight) and a size 8 (5mm) 24” (60cm) circular needle or size needed to achieve the “felted” gauge. If using single strand of worsted weight yarn, use approximately 2/3 the yardage listed below; if using two strands of lighter-weight yarn, use the same yardage as listed below. Use the instructions as written for felted bags.
Work each felted flower with a single strand of worsted weight, feltable yarn held throughout on the smaller needles.

Felted Bag Gauge
Pre-felted gauge: 12 stitches and 16 rounds = 4” (10cm) using a double-strand of worsted weight yarn.
Felted/non-felted gauge: 16 stitches and 24 rounds = 4” (10cm). Please check your unfelted and felted gauges by swatching and felting an 8 x 8” (20 x 20cm) first. There will be some variation in finished size if gauge differs due to different needle size, yarn type, or fiber content.
